EIS Mission Statement

Excellence in Sportsmanship (EIS) is a nonprofit corporation (501c(3)) operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, who represent “Referees Who Care about the Future of Mutual Respect in Sport and in Life.” Since 1990, its first purpose has been to identify and publicly recognize Central Ohio girl and boy varsity high-school soccer players who, by example during matches, portray and foster the ideals of fair play, civility, integrity and respect for opponents, teammates, and officials, win, lose, or draw. Players are identified by referees based solely on their attitude and behavior during matches, which precludes biases based on cultural or socioeconomic factors. The second purpose is to promote the ideals of sportsmanship and leadership these student-athletes demonstrate through raising funds for scholarships to lessen, albeit in a small way, the ever-increasing high costs of post-high-school education and honor their families and them at  annual awards banquets. Whether they continue in soccer or other endeavors after collegiate or vocational education, including after military service, these model citizens, as well as the coaches and parents who inspired their civil and respectful conduct, must be recognized and supported because they represent our future leaders.
